Some people I find just have an amazing work ethic mind, I however was not gifted with one of those. One of my friends gets more agitated when she has time off then when she is working a lot and I am kind of jealous of that way of thinking, I did 8 months of not working when I travelled and I didn’t miss it one bit. However, that isn’t to say that I don’t work hard, I really do. I take all the shifts I possibly can and am happy to do extra work to learn and make a living of course, but it is the absolute dream to work a job one day that makes me happy and feel like I am achieving a lot every day.
Right now, I work a job that allows me to be flexible with my studying and blogging but is in the hospitality sector, I meet a lot of interesting and exciting people but I also find it is one of the hardest jobs out there. EVERYONE at some point in their life should give it a go so that they learn how to respect and treat others, I worked in a restaurant since I was 15 in England, I really enjoyed working there but you would always have the ‘mean’ guest, it would be someone who treats you like it is their God-given right to be there and you are so far beneath them that you’re not even worth treating with respect. I remember an older man shouting at me for a solid 15 minutes because his steak was a little bit too well done, I completely understand being like ‘hey, I’m so sorry but this is overdone’ and I would then profusely apologies get him a new one and give him a discount because he was so nice about it, but no. Apparently the cooking is my fault, and me standing there offended him so much that he felt verbal abuse was necessary. This guy was not the last by hundreds, I have horror stories of the way I have been treated since working in the hospitality word and sometimes I just think it isn’t worth it. It is also simple courtesy, the things that you learn working in this world, like not leaving your plates in a huge mess on the table or listening to everything the hotel receptionist has to say before you interrupt with the exact same questions they were about to explain to you. I could rant for days about my views of how to respect others and it is something I hope by talking about it can bring more awareness of how we act when going for dinner or staying in a hotel.
I also am starting to do photography on the side which is very exciting, it has always been a dream of mine to be a photographer but it was just a hobby however recently I have started doing more street style photography and taking pictures of events. I am very excited to see where this will go as turning a hobby into a job is one of the best ways to enjoy your working life but can also be dangerous, there have been times where I find I stress way too much about my social media rather than enjoying it as I am trying to turn it into a job too. With that said I am very excited for this next chapter and hope that it will open lots of new doors for me.
