I have already talked about my interest in conservation as that is what I want to study at University, it is something I feel very strongly about and believe that we should all do our part if we want to leave a beautiful and healthy world for our children. But I have been reading more and more about sustainable fashion, now counting my two passions are fashion and conservation you can imagine how happy I am to know that Fashion companies are taking an interest in this and working with the environment to create beautiful clothes that don’t pollute our future, I think this is a beautiful idea.
So what is sustainable fashion or eco fashion?
Here is a definition from www.greenstrategy.se
‘Sustainable fashion can be defined as clothing, shoes and accessories that are manufactured, marketed and used in the most sustainable manner possible, taking into account both environmental and socio-economic aspects. In practice, this implies continuous work to improve all stages of the product’s life cycle, from design, raw material production, manufacturing, transport, storage, marketing and final sale, to use, reuse, repair, remake and recycling of the product and its components.’
This is a slightly bulky explanation but in short, it is companies that use sustainable, fair trade and least polluting materials to create their fashion lines. If you want to read more have a look at the green strategy link, it has a lot of information about this new and growing world.
But who wears this type of clothing? Many on the red carpet wear sustainable fashion but one person all of us know is Emma Watson, I don’t know if some of you have seen but she has just started a new Instagram for all her outfits for the upcoming events following the release of her beautiful film, Beauty and the Beast and all her outfits are Eco Friendly! This is so inspirational that every day she is trying to make a difference and teach us, have a look yourself:
