The sustainable phone case to have in your life!

The more and more I learn about the horrible effects that plastic is having on our world the more I want to reduce my consumption, but there is so much. The more you think about it the more stuff you realise is made from plastic, have a look around you now, how much is made from plastic? The keys on your computer, the controller to your tv or the case on your phone, what you are using now to read this has probably go some sort of plastic attached to it. Its scary really. However as we become more aware, more people are starting to come up with amazing ideas for alternatives that we can use in our every day life. Here is a super cool new idea that I have been introduced to and totally love!

First of all did you know there are more mobile devices in the world than people? Thats right, it is estimated that there are around 7.2 billion mobile gadgets in the world and they are multiplying 5 times faster than we are. (Source: Independent newspaper) This is an insane amount of phones and although I am not sure how much is being done to make this sustainable, there is something we can do. I always have my phone on me, and especially when I don't have the right bag or pockets its pretty much in my hand, so for me it is important to have a good case. I am very excited that I now have a fashionable and sustainable phone case that not only protects my phone well (as I drop my phone way too often) but it also looks great.

Pela is a company that work towards making their phone cases as sustainable as possible. Based on the beautiful quote "Be the change you wish to see in the world." Gandhi. They have created this amazing phone case (Mine is linked here) which is made out of an innovated plant based material to make it 100% compostable. The material is called Flaxstic which is made with a starch based biopolymer, recycled materials and flax straw for added strength. Because it is all recycled and natural it means it has a low impact when being manufactured which reduces their and your carbon footprint and because it is decomposable it means there is zero waste!

I absolutely love the case, I was a little worried that it wouldn't feel as strong as plastic or that it would have an odd feel but I was completely and very happily surprised when I held the case in my hand and realised how strong, flexible and light it felt. It has a more rubbery feel to the case but with a soft and flat finishing so it slides well into my pockets and given me good grip when holding my phone. I honestly feel so good that another item in my house hold is plastic free and makes a huge difference to our planet.

Thank you Pela case for doing something amazing for the environment, it doesn't take a lot for us to make these differences in our lives and help save the planet. Imagine those 7.2 billion phone cases that will all eventually end up on landfills or 7.2 billion compostable phone cases that will help our planet grow. I know which road I want to follow but it is up to each and every one of you to make those choices for yourselves!

Be the change that you want to see in our world, have items on you that cause less harm to our planet and to yourself and do what makes you happy! I am exploring and learning more about the amazing items in our world that are less harmful and understanding what changes I can make to help create a difference but I really hope that my sharing this with you gives you more knowledge and a better idea of what simple, affordable and fun changes you can make in your life that will really make a difference. I would love to know what you think of the phone case and if you have any questions, I am all about supporting and learning together to help our future!

Aaron,
Pablo Neruda wrote, “You can cut all the flowers, but you cannot keep spring from coming.” Sometimes when I ponder the facts and trends and concerns of the environment, and how it will be in the not-too-distant future, it feels very dark and cold and I get so cynical, but I have to remember like in this marvelous, poetic essay, that no matter what happens, the world will still be beautiful, we will still love and make art and spring will always come https://medium.com/@SarahEMoffitt/burning-it-down-ambiguous-loss-divorce-and-climate-change-4462e46a35c5
